The Sea Pony Program is a program specifically for children ages 4 to 8 who are interested in learning beginning swim technique and water safety with the optional (but encouraged!) goal of continuing on to recreational swimming with Ygnacio Wood Swim Team.
Our small groups (3-4 swimmers per trained instructor) spend 30-minutes both on deck and inside the pool learning beginner stroke technique and basic water safety for 4-week sessions during the pre-season or two-week sessions throughout the summer. Our instructors utilize three levels – beginner, intermediate, advanced – to categorize our swimmers so that there is a safe and personalized atmosphere for each swimmer. At the end of the session, your child will receive a certificate of completion.
You should bring your child 15 minutes early on the first day of each session. Proper swimwear is required: sunscreen, long hair pulled back into a ponytail, goggles. No fins or floaties, please. For more information contact the Sea Pony Coordinator, Kat Stodola, at firstname.lastname@example.org.
If you are interested in private one-on-one lessons or lessons for a child under the age of 4, please contact Head Sea Pony Instructor Taylor Welsh at email@example.com.

Taylor Welsh – Lead Instructor
Hey seahorses!! My name is Taylor Welsh and I am so excited for the amazing opportunity to be one of your assistant coaches and the director of the Sea Ponies program this season! I swam recreationally for Valley Vista Swim Team for ten years, competitively as a Captain for Northgate High School for four, and was fortunate enough to swim my last season as a seahorse last summer. At Valley Vista, I was a swimmer coach for three years, worked with the fall and spring programs, and was a Cuda Program instructor for five years. Last summer I co-directed the Sea Ponies program and assisted with pre-season. I am attending Saint Mary’s College of California where I am in the Justice, Community, and Leadership program in pursuit of a career in law enforcement. I can’t wait for all the memories to be made this summer with my Ygnacio family!
Cost for the four-week pre-season session is $150.
Cost for the two-week summer sessions is $75 (except for June 25 – June 29 which is $40)
100% of fees paid to the Sea Pony program can be used to pay Team Fees if your swimmer joins the swim team.
