Lessons – Sea Pony Program

The Sea Pony Program is a program specifically for children ages 4 to 8 who are interested in learning beginning swim technique and water safety with the optional (but encouraged!) goal of continuing on to recreational swimming with Ygnacio Wood Swim Team.

Our small groups (3-4 swimmers per trained instructor) spend 30-minutes both on deck and inside the pool learning beginner stroke technique and basic water safety for 4-week sessions during the pre-season or two-week sessions throughout the summer. Our instructors utilize three levels – beginner, intermediate, advanced – to categorize our swimmers so that there is a safe and personalized atmosphere for each swimmer. At the end of the session, your child will receive a certificate of completion.

You should bring your child 15 minutes early on the first day of each session. Proper swimwear is required: sunscreen, long hair pulled back into a ponytail, goggles. No fins or floaties, please. For more information contact the Sea Pony Coordinator, Kat Stodola, at seaponies@ywst.org.

If you are interested in private one-on-one lessons or lessons for a child under the age of 4, please contact Head Sea Pony Instructors Ari Davis & Taylor Welsh at seaponies@ywst.org.

Hello sea ponies! My name is Ari Davis and I am so excited to be co-directing the sea pony program again for my third time this 2017 season. I am currently attending Chico State University as a psychology major with an emphasis in child development. I have been swimming since I was nine both recreationally and competitively for Las Lomas high school. This year is my fifth and final year swimming for Ygnacio Wood and I could not be more proud to finish off my years directing all of our baby seahorses! Can not wait to meet all of our new sea ponies! Go Ygnacio!

Hey there sea ponies! My name is Taylor Welsh and I’m looking forward to all the memories to be made this season with the sea ponies program! I swam recreationally for Valley Vista Swim Team for ten years & competitively as a Captain for Northgate High School for four! After having the amazing opportunity to be a swimmer coach at Valley Vista for three years and a Cuda Program instructor for five years, I feel so fortunate to be co-directing this program! This fall I will be attending UC Davis to study Political Science with an emphasis on public service. This season will be my final year swimming recreationally and I am so excited to join the Ygnacio family and meet all of you!

Cost for the four-week pre-season session is $150.

Cost for the two-week summer sessions is $75 (except for June 26 – July 7 which is $65.)

100% of fees paid to the Sea Pony program can be used to pay Team Fees if your swimmer joins the swim team.
